2. Sir Augustus Frederick William Keppel2 Stephenson (Henry Frederick1) was born in London 1827.

He married Eglantine Pleydell Bouverie 5/12/1864. Eglantine was the daughter of Edward Pleydell Bouverie and Elizabeth Anne Balfour. Eglantine died 26/09/1904.

The death is announced of Sir Augustus Frederick William Keppel Stephenson, K.C.B., K.C., which occured on Monday at his residence, Bodenham, Salisbury. He was born in London in 1827, being the son of Henry Frederick Stephenson, barrister-at-law, M.P. for Westbury, 1831-49, and of Inland Revenue, 1849-58, by his wife Lady Mary Keppel, third daughter of the fourth Earl of Arbemarle. He was educated under private tutors, and a Caius College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. in 1849 and proceeded M.A. in 1853. In the meantime he kept his terms at Lincoln's Inn, where he was admitted in 1846, and was called to the Bar (having gained the Tancred studentship) in 1852. For some years after his call Stephenson went the Norfolk circuit, and practised at the Aylesbury, Bury, and Ipswich Sessions. He was also for a time marshal and associate to Lord Campbell, and from 1862 to 1867 was Recorder of Bedford. In 1865 he was appointed Assistant Solicitor to the Treasury, and from 1870 to 1875 he held in addition the post of Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies. The last office he exchanged in August 1875, for that of Solicitor to the Treasury, to which he had as Assistant Solicitor served a ten years' apprenticeship. To the Treasury-Solicitorship was united the position of Queen's Proctor in 1876. In 1884 the Directorship of Public Prosecutions, which had been created five years earlier, was also joined to the Treasury Solicitorship. Sir A. Stephenson held all three offices until his retirement on pension in 1894. He was created C.B. in 1883, and promoted to the rank of K.C.B. in 1885; he took silk in 1890, and became a Bencher of his Inn in 1892.

He married Eglantine, second daughter of the Right Hon. Edward Pleydell Bouverie, second son of the third Earl of Radnor, and leaves issue.
