2. Edward2 Rushworth (John1) was born 17/10/1755. Edward died 15/10/1817 at 61 years of age.

He married Catherine Holmes in Calbourne, Isle of Wight, 28/08/1780. Catherine was born 1765. Catherine was the daughter of Reverend Leonard Troughear and Elizabeth Tyrrell. Catherine died 9/12/1780 at 15 years of age. She was baptized in Newport, Isle of Wight, 20/09/1765.

He was baptized in Kingston Church, Portsea, Hampshire, 2/01/1756. Religion: religion unknown. Was a Founders' Kin Scholar of Winchester College. He took Deacon's Orders in the Church, and was afterwards MP for Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, and Recorder of Newport. On his election the unsuccessful candidate, Mr. John Barrington, petitioned the House against the validity of his return on the ground of his being in Holy Orders. A Select Committee was appointed to consider it, and reported that Mr. Rushworth had been 'duly elected to serve in this Parliament.'

Edward Rushworth and Catherine Holmes had the following children:

child 7 iii. Catherine Rushworth was born in Afton House, Freshwater, Isle of Wight 16/11/1781. Catherine died 26/06/1783 at 1 year of age. Her body was interred 29/06/1783 in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight. She was baptized in Freshwater Church, Isle of Wight, 8/01/1782. Religion: religion unknown. Sponsors: Sir Philip Jennings, Clerke, Bart., Lady Holmes and Mrs. Elizabeth Troughear (great grandmother).

child 8 iv. Elizabeth Rushworth was born in Afton House, Freshwater, Isle of Wight 15/10/1783. Elizabeth died 15/11/1865 at 82 years of age. She married James Patrick Murray in Freshwater Church, Isle of Wight, 31/01/1803. James was the son of James Murray.

She was baptized in Freshwater Church, Isle of Wight, 6/01/1784. Religion: religion unknown. Sponsors: Captain Christian, Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Worsley (Aunt).

child 9 v. Holmes Jervoise Rushworth was born in Afton House, Freshwater, Isle of Wight 26/09/1785. Holmes died 9/03/1787 at 1 year of age. His body was interred 1787 in Yarmouth Church, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight. He was baptized in Freshwater Church, Isle of Wight, 9/11/1785. Religion: religion unknown. Sponsors: Mr. Holmes, Mr. Jervoise and Miss Le Marchant.

child 10 vi. Edward Rushworth was born in Afton House, Freshwater, Isle of Wight 11/08/1787. Edward died 19/06/1812 in HMS Barbados, Jamaica, West Indies, at 24 years of age. His body was interred 21/12/1787 in Freshwater Church, Isle of Wight. Sponsors: Reverend Henry Worsley (uncle), Mr. Blacknall of Great Haselee in Oxfordshire, and his cousin Miss Richards of Yarmouth in Norfolk.

child 11 vii. Mary Rushworth was born 25/07/1789. Mary died 23/05/1865 in Purbrook Heath House, Hampshire, at 75 years of age. She married Sir John Pringle Dalrymple. i0 5th and last Baronet of Hailes, Haddingtonshire. Great grandson of Sir David Dalrymple, 5th son of James, 1st Lord Stair. Sponsor: Henry James Pye (Poet Laureate).

child 12 viii. Lieutenant Henry Rushworth RN was born 1798. Henry died 18/07/1819 in Ceylon, at 21 years of age. HMS Liverpool.
