The Rev. Napier Malcolm, vicar of St. John's, Altrincham, Cheshire, who died on Wednesday, aged 51, was for some ten years a missionary in Persia, with which country his family had been connected for over 100 years. The youngest son of General Sir George Malcolm, G.C.B., and brother of Lieutenant-Colonel Pulteney Malcolm, D.S.O., Chief Constable of Cheshire, he went to New College, Oxford, and obtained honours in classical moderation and Lit. Hum. He was ordained to the curacy of Eccles in 1894 by the Bishop of Manchester (Dr. Moorhouse). His work in Persia began in 1808 (sic), when he went out as C.M.S. missionary at Yezd. He described his experiences in a book, "Five Years in a Persian Town". Later he removed to the mission at Shiraz, and returned to England in 1908, when he became rector of Broughton. In 1816 the Bishop of Chester (Dr. Jayne) collated him to the vicarage of St. John, Altrincham.
