11. Edward III7 Plantagenet King of Britain (Edward II6, Edward I5, Henry III4, John3 Angevins, Henry II2, Geoffery1 Plantagenet) was born in Windsor Castle, Royal Berkshire 13/11/1312. Edward died 21/6/1377 in Sheen Palace, Surrey, at 64 years of age. His body was interred in Westminster Abbey.
He married Phillipa of Hinault in York Minster, 24/6/1328. Phillipa was born in Valenciennes 24/6/1311. Phillipa died 14/8/1369 in Windsor Castle, Royal Berkshire, at 58 years of age.
Acceded 1/02/1327. Reigned 1327-1377. Edward assumed effective power in 1330 after imprisoning his mother and executing her lover Roger de Mortimer who had murdered his father; thereafter his reign was dominated by military adventures. His victory in Scotland, especially at Haildon Hill 1333 encouraged him to plan (1363) the union of England and Scotland. Through his mother he claimed the French throne thus starting (1337) the Hundred years war. His son John of Gaunt dominated the government during his last years. Died of a Stroke.
