6. Colonel Thomas3 Holmes (Henry2, Robert1) was born circa 1638.

He married Anne Gibbons. Anne was the daughter of John Gibbons.

Of Kilmallock, Co. Limerick, Ireland. Educated Trinity College, Dublin. Matriculated 26/09/1653 aged 17.

Col. Thomas Holmes was apparently also father of Major General Richard Holmes whose daughter Martha married (2 March 1715) Philip Wharton (1698 - 1731) later created Duke of Wharton (complete peerage Vol. 12 pp 609 - 614.)

Colonel Thomas Holmes and Anne Gibbons had the following children:

child 10 i. Robert4 Holmes. Living 1692

child 11 ii. Margaret Holmes. She married John Ponsonby. i0 Nephew of Sir John Ponsonby. (Ancestor of the Earls of Bessborough) Cousin of John Ponsonby, Speaker of the Irish House of Commons. Died without issue.

child 12 iii. Alice Holmes. Living 1692.

child 13 iv. Grace Holmes. She married Nicholas Lysaght. (See Nicholas Lysaght for the continuation of this line.)

child 14 v. William Holmes. He married Mary Snow circa 1675. Mary was born 1653. Mary was the daughter of Robert Snow. Date of birth is circa 1650 according to Holmes Pedigree, but this would make his father 12 years old when he was born.

child + 15 vi. Colonel Henry Holmes was born c1660.
