4. James2 Hamilton 4th Duke of Hamilton (William1 Douglas) was born in Hamilton Palace, Larnarkshire 11/04/1658. James died 15/11/1712 in Hyde Park, London, at 54 years of age. His body was interred 1712 in Hamilton Parish Church.
He married twice. He married Lady Anne Spencer in Whitehall, 10/01/1688. Anne was born c1669. Anne died c1690 in Kinneil Castle, Linlithgowshire, at 21 years of age. He married Elizabeth Gerard in Bushy Park, 17/07/1698. Elizabeth was born c1682. Elizabeth was the daughter of Digby Gerard and Elizabeth Gerard. Elizabeth died 1744 at 62 years of age.
He was baptized 11/04/1658. Religion: religion unknown. Called after his maternal grandfather, James, like his twelve brothers and sisters, took his mother's surname, for the second duke of Hamilton's entail stipulated that her husband and children were to ‘take on, use and weir the name and armes of the house of Hamilton’ Arran ran up huge debts, fought in duels, and engaged in numerous affairs, fathering at least three illegitimate children, James Abercrombie and Katherine and Mary Ruthven. Also had Charles Hamilton (1691 - 1754) by Lady Barbara Fitzroy. Died in a duel against Lord Mohun in Hyde Park.

Susanna Hamilton was born c1706. Susanna died 3/06/1755 in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, at 48 years of age. She married Anthony Tracy 3/08/1736. Anthony was born 1708. Anthony was the son of John Tracy and
Anne Atkyns. Anthony died 1767 at 59 years of age. (See Anthony Tracy for the continuation

She was baptized in Canongate, Edinburgh, 1706. Religion: religion unknown.

Anne Hamilton was born 1709. Lord Hamilton's 3rd son was named Anne, in an attempt to ingratiate himself with Queen
Anne.
