69. William¹⁰ Pleydell Bouverie 5th Earl of Radnor (Jacob⁹, William⁸, Jacob⁷, William⁶ de Bouverie, Jacob⁵, William⁴ des Bouverie, Sir Edward³ des Bouveries, Edward², Laurens¹) was born 19/06/1841. William died 3/06/1900 at 58 years of age.

He married Helen Chaplin 1866. Helen was born c1845. Helen was the daughter of Reverend Henry Chaplin and Caroline Ellice. Helen died 11/09/1929 in Armitage Hill, Sunninghill, Berkshire, at 84 years of age.

His funeral was held in Britford Church, Salisbury, 15/06/1900. From The Times, June 5, 1900

The death is announced of the Earl of Radnor, which took place on Sunday morning. The event was sudden, for his Lordship attended the levée at the beginning of last week, and it was only on Saturday that medical advice was seriously called for and a consultation took place on the symptoms which then alarmingly developed themselves. The right honourable William Pleydell-Bouverie, who was the fifth earl, was born in 1841, and was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1866 he married a sister of the President of the Local Government Board - Ellen Matilda, daughter of the late Rev. Henry Chaplin, vicar of Ryhall, Rutlandshire. In 1874 he entered the House of Commons as Conservative member for South Wilts. For some 15 years he was a familiar and popular figure in that assembly under the title of Viscount Folkestone. He represented the Wiltshire consituency during the long administration of Mr. Disraeli from 1874 to 1880, and again from 1880 to 1885, when Mr. Gladstone was in power. At the general election of the latter year he was returned for the Enfield Divison of Middlesex, and he represented this metropolitan division until his succession to the peerage on the death of the fourth earl in 1889. During the short Conservative Government of 1885-86, and again under the Government of Lord Salisbury beginning in 1886, he was Treasurer of the Household. He was a justice of the peace both in Berks and Wilts, and chairman of the Salisbury Bench of magistrates and also chairman of quarter sessions. Lord Radnor was a man of many-sided activities and interests. A thorough sportsman, and until some two years ago a master of hounds, and at one time a member of the Jockey Club, he was also a Freemason, being a Provincial Grand Master for Wiltshire, and a captain of the Wiltshire Yeomanry, while in all public and philanthropic movements into which he threw himself his genial presence was a tower of strength. By his death a vacancy is created in South Wiltshire, whose present Parliamentary representative is Viscount Folkestone. The new earl is now serving in South Africa. The funeral of the late Earl will take place at Britford Church on Thursday next at 1 30 p.m. Carriages will meet at the 11 a.m. train from Waterloo at Salisbury. The train returns from Salisbury at 2 56 p.m.
