14. Hugh6 Elliot (Gilbert5, Gilbert4, Sir Gilbert3, Gavin2, Gilbert1) was born 6/04/1752. Hugh died 12/10/1830 in Somerset Street, London, at 78 years of age. His body was interred 1830 in Westminster Abbey.

He married twice. He married Margaret Jones. Margaret was born 1770. Margaret died 1819 at 49 years of age. He married Charlotte Kraut c1779. Charlotte was divorced from Hugh Elliot c1783.

Hugh Elliot and Margaret Jones had the following children:

child 15 i. Emma7 Elliot. Emma died 1866. She married Sir Thomas Hislop. Thomas was born 1764. Thomas died 1843 at 79 years of age.

child 16 ii. Sir Charles Elliot was born in Dresden 1801. Charles died 9/09/1875 in Withecombe, Devon, at 74 years of age. He married Clara Windsor.

Charles served in the military in Royal Navy, March 1815. Charles was promoted 11/06/1822 in Lieutenant. Naval officer and colonial officer.

Midshipman on Minden in 1816. Lieutenant on Hussar in 1822. In April 1826 he was promoted commander of the hospital ship at Port Royal, and was advanced to post rank on 28 August 1828. From then he virtually retired from the navy, being actively and almost continuously employed by the Foreign or Colonial office. He was chargé d'affaires in Texas from 1842 to 1846, and governor of Bermuda (1846-54), Trinidad (1854-6), and St Helena (1863-9). He had honorary promotions to rear-admiral (2 May 1855), vice admiral (15 January 1862) and admiral on 12 September 1865.

child 17 iii. Sir Thomas Frederick Elliot was born in London July 1808. Thomas died 12/02/1880 in Shepeard's Hotel, Cairo, Egypt, at 71 years of age. He married twice. He married Jane Perry 16/05/1833. Jane was born 1807. Jane was the daughter of James Perry. Jane died 9/01/1861 at 53 years of age. He married Elizabeth Howe Bromley 4/01/1869. Elizabeth was born c1824. Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir Robert Howe Bromley and Anne Wilson. Elizabeth died 8/02/1880 in Shepeard's Hotel, Cairo, Egypt, at 55 years of age. Died of Typhoid Fever and was buried in Cairo.

He was baptized 29/01/1809. Religion: religion unknown. Thomas retired 8/12/1868. Thomas was knighted 14/08/1869. Entered the colonial office on 5 July 1825. Died of Typhoid Fever and was buried in Cairo.
