17. James8 Douglas 14th Earl of Morton (George7, James6, William5, Robert4, William3, Sir Robert2, Thomas1) was born in Edinburgh 1702. James died 12/10/1768 in Chiswick, Middlesex, at 66 years of age.
He married twice. He married Agatha Halyburton before 1731. Agatha was the daughter of James Halyburton. Agatha died 11/12/1748 in Edinburgh. James had 5 sons by his first wife Agatha Halyburton, 4 of which predeceased him. After Agatha's death in 1748, James married Bridget Heathcote with whom he also had a son. James died in 1768 and the family possessions passed to his only surviving son by Agatha Halyburton.
He married Bridget Heathcote in St. James's Square, Westminster, 31/07/1755. Bridget was born circa 1722. Bridget was the daughter of John Heathcote 2nd Baronet and Bridget White. Bridget died 2/03/1805 in Lower Brook Street, London, at 82 years of age.
James Acceded 1738. From 1730 until 1738 he was styled Lord Aberdour and from then onwards he was Earl of Morton. Before 1731 he married Agatha Halyburton, daughter of James Halyburton of Pitcur. On 18 May 1739 he became a representative Peer for Scotland, which he was until he died. He was Grand Master Mason of Scotland 1739 - 1740 and Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of England March 1741 to April 1742.
By act of Parliament 16 March 1742, he obtained the absolute Lordship of Orkeny and Shetland, but disposed of the same in 1766, for 63,000 pounds Sterling, to the Dundas family. In 1745 he went to live in Paris with his wife and child. In 1746 he was imprisoned in the Bastille but after three months was allowed to return to England. His wife died in Edinburgh on 11 December 1748.
On 31 July 1755 he married Bridget Heathcote and died 12 October 1768, his widow surviving him by thirty-six years.

Lady Bridget Douglas was born c1758. Bridget died 26/02/1842 in Marylebone, London, at 83 years of age. She married William Henry Bouverie 16/08/1777. William was born in Westminster, London 30/10/1752.
William was the son of William de Bouverie 1st Earl of Radnor and Rebecca Alleyne. William died 23/03/1806 at 53 years of
age. He was christened in Westminster, London, 17/11/1752. (See William Henry Bouverie for

She was listed as a resident in the census report in Wimpole Street, Marylebone, London, 1841.
