6. Jacob5 de Bouverie 1st Viscount Folkestone (William4 des Bouverie, Sir Edward3 des Bouveries, Edward2, Laurens1) was born 1694. Jacob died 04/02/1761 in Britford, Wiltshire, at 66 years of age. His body was interred 27/02/1761 in Britford, Wiltshire.

He married twice. He married Mary Clarke in St. Pauls Cathederal, London, 31/01/1724. Mary was born circa 1701. Mary was the daughter of Bartholomew Clarke and Mary Young. Mary died 16/11/1739 at 38 years of age. He married Elizabeth Marsham in Swancombe, Kent, 21/04/1741. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Marsham and Elizabeth Shovel. Elizabeth died 1782.

He was baptized 14/10/1694. Religion: religion unknown. Jacob Acceded 20/10/1711. Jacob was created a viscount on 29/06/1747. Admitted to the Middle Temple in 1708 and matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, on 20 October 1711, he succeeded to the Baronetcy when his elder brother died. On 22 April 1737 the surname was established to be Bouverie by Act of Parliament and in the same year became a trustee of the Georgia Society [Trustees for establishing the colony of Georgia in America]. He was a Tory MP for Salisbury 1741 - 1747 and Recorder of Salisbury in 1744. On 29 June 1747 he created Lord Longford, Baron of Longford and Viscount Folkestone. He married 2ndly on 21 April 1741 to Elizabeth (died 25 September 1782), eldest daughter of 1st Baron Romney. (2nd marriage date also found as 21/4/1746 as per vital records index).

According to Horace Walpolo, Sir Jacob Bouverie was a considerable Jacobite who had bought his title for 12,000 pounds Sterling from the Duchess of Kendal, the King's mistress. He was a great picture collector and patron of arts and did much to adorn Longford.

Jacob de Bouverie 1st Viscount Folkestone and Mary Clarke had the following children:

child 7 i. Anne6 de Bouverie. She married Reverend Hon. George Talbot.

child 8 ii. Mary de Bouverie. Mary died 12/11/1804. Married on 20 March 1775 to 4th Earl of Shaftesbury (qv) , leaving issue.

child 9 iii. Charlotte de Bouverie. She married John Grant. i0 Of White Waltham, Berkshire.

child + 10 iv. William de Bouverie 1st Earl of Radnor was born 26/02/1725.

child 11 v. Harriet de Bouverie was born 17/10/1736. Harriet died 12/11/1777 at 41 years of age. Married on 10 July 1775, as his 1st w, Sir James LONG later TYLNEY-LONG, 7th Bt. Died without issue.

child + 12 vi. Edward de Bouverie was born 5/09/1738.

Jacob de Bouverie 1st Viscount Folkestone and Elizabeth Marsham had the following children:

child 13 vii. Jacob Bouverie was born in Westminster, London 4/06/1742. Jacob died c1746 at 4 years of age. He was christened in Westminster, London, 14/06/1742.

child 14 viii. Philip Bouverie was born in Westminster, London 8/10/1746. Philip died 14/04/1828 at 81 years of age. Married on 20 Aug 1798 to Lucy (d 27 March 1858), dau of 4th Earl of Harborough (see 1859 edn) and widow of Sir Thomas Cave, 7th Bt.
