Arreton Church, Arreton, Isle of Wight: Sacred to the memory of the Reverend Sir Henry Worsley Holmes, Bart., third son of
Robert Worsley Esq. late of Pidford in this island. Exemplary in the duties and active in the charities of life the rank and fortune he
enjoyed enabled him to indulge the natural benevolence of his heart and to become the liberal dispenser of good to others. As a divine
and magistrate he lived in the respect and esteem of society and as a friend, father and christian he closed a useful and well spent life in
the bosom of his afflicted family on the 14th day of April 1811 in the 56th year of his age. Thou has been faithful unto death and I will
give thee the crown of life.
Henry Worsley 8th Baronet Worsley and Elizabeth Troughear Holmes had the following children:
Leonard Worsley Holmes
Inscription found in Arreton Church, Arreton, Isle of Wight:
To the Memory fo Richard Fleming Worsley Holmes Esq.,
second son of the Reverend Henry Worsley Holmes Bart. and
the Honourable Lady Worsley Holmes. One of the representatives in Parliament for the borough of Newport in this island. Who
was unfortunately drowned in the river Hamble on the 26th day of July 1814 aged 22 years. Called to the bosom of his creator when he had
just entered upon the career of a promising and useful life. This fate affords him an impressive example of the uncertainty of all worldly
hopes. Benevelent generous and sincere the accomplishments that adorned and the virtues that exalted his character endeared him alike to
the affections of his friends and the hearts of his family. The tears that a weeping multitude shed over his grave were a well-merited and
expressive tribute to the worth of his excellence and character.
