91. Samuel¹⁶ Ashe (John Baptista¹⁵, John¹⁴, John¹³, John¹², James¹¹, John¹⁰, James⁹, Nicholas⁸, John⁷, William⁶, John⁵, Baldwin⁴, Richard³ Eshe, Henry², Sir Oliver¹ D'Esse) was born in Nr. Bath, Beaufort County, North Carolina 24/03/1725. Samuel died 22/01/1813 at 87 years of age.

He married twice. He married Elizabeth Merrick. He married Mary Porter 1746. Mary died 1767.

Was assisant attorney for the crown in Wilmington. Was one of the first prominent men to become a zealous American patriot. Under the new North Carolina constitution was elected speaker of the senate and was one of three presiding judges of the state supreme court. Had several children with Elizabeth Merrick, Thomas being the only one to survive to maturity.

Samuel Ashe and Mary Porter had the following children:

100 ii. Cincinnatus Ashe.

+ 101 iii. Colonel Samuel Ashe was born 1763.

Samuel Ashe and Elizabeth Merrick had the following child:
