27. John¹² Ashe (James¹¹, John¹⁰, James⁹, Nicholas⁸, John⁷, William⁶, John⁵, Baldwin⁴, Richard³ Eshe, Henry², Sir Oliver¹ D'Esse) was born in Westcombe, Somerset 1597. John died 1658 at 61 years of age. His body was interred 26/02/1658 Beckington Vault, Somerset.

He married Elizabeth Davison 1621. Elizabeth was born 1600. Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Davison. Elizabeth died 1673 at 73 years of age.

He was baptized in Batcombe, Somerset, 27/10/1597. Religion: religion unknown. He made a will 15/03/1656. John's will was probated 20/06/1659. of Freshford, Somerset. Clothier. In 1640 was elected MP for Westbury, Wiltshire in both the Short and the Long Parliaments, later serving as MP for Somerset in both the first and second protectorate parliaments (1654 - 1655, 1656 - 1657), and for Heytesbury in Richard Cromwell's parliament in 1659. Described as 'the greatest clothier of his time'. Owned farms and land in Teffont which was left to his son John in his will.

First cousin was Dennis Bond.

John Ashe and Elizabeth Davison had the following children:

47 vi. Mary Ashe.

+ 48 vii. Edward Ashe was born c1635.

49 viii. Hesther Ashe was born in Stowford, Wiltshire c1635. Hesther died 1682 in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, at 47 years of age. She married Samuel Creswicke 1674. Samuel was born in Bristol c1622. Samuel was the son of Francis Creswicke. Samuel died 24 April 1683 in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, at 60 years of age. 50 ix. Benjamin Ashe was born c1644. Benjamin died c1673 at 28 years of age. He married Elizabeth Stokes in Chippenham, 6/05/1670. Elizabeth was born c1654. Elizabeth was the daughter of Mr. Stokes.

He made a will 10/02/1673. Benjamin's will was probated 03/05/1673. Benjamin's will was probated 03/06/1673.

51 x. Jonathan Ashe was born c1645. Lincoln College, Oxford, matriculated 25 May 1661; BA from Oriel College, Oxford 1666; MA 1668. Of Clanwilliam, Co. Tipperary. Admitted to the Inner Temple 1664.

Started the Ashe of Ashgrove pedigree.
