5. Sir Alan Cuthbert2 Burns (James Patrick1) was born in Basseterre, St. Kitts, West Indies 9/11/1887. Alan died 29/09/1980 in Westminster Hospital, London, at 92 years of age.
He married Kathleen Fitzpatrick Hardtman 1914. Kathleen was born c1890. Kathleen was the daughter of Robert Altman Hardtman and Alice Gordon. Kathleen died 1970 at 80 years of age.
Alan was a student 1901 in St. Edmunds Collge, Old Hall Green, Hertfordshire. Alan was knighted 1936. St Kitts-born British colonial administrator (1887-1980); Appointed to the treasury and customs department of St. Kitts in 1905. Colonial Secretary of the Bahamas, Deputy Chief Secretary of Nigeria, Governor General of Belize, 1934-1940; Governor of Ghana, 29 Jun 1942 - 2 Aug 1947. Burns was appointed CMG in 1927, KCMG in 1936, and GCMG in 1946. He was made a knight of the order of St John of Jerusalem in 1942.
