206. James Leslie¹³ Balfour-Melville (Robert Andrew Agnew¹², James¹¹, James¹⁰ Balfour, John⁹, Professor James⁸, James⁷, James⁶, James⁵, Andrew⁴, James³, David², Alexander¹) was born 1895. James died 1978 at 83 years of age.

He married Catherine Ethel MacVean 1927. Catherine died 1963.

Educated at Brighton Grammar School, he enlisted in the 1st Australian Imperial Forces serving as a driver in the 101st Howitzer Battery but was wounded twice at Ypres and Menin Gate in 1917. He was sent first to Rouen then Reading and finally Weymouth before going to London to join the Pay Corps, but was again hospitalized before returning to Australia in 1918 on the transport "Gaika". He studied accountancy and practiced with his father in the firm of Balfour - Melville & Son.

James Leslie Balfour-Melville and Catherine Ethel MacVean had the following children:

234 i. Margaret¹⁴ Balfour-Melville was born 1928. She married Bryan Robert Wardle 1949. (See Bryan Robert Wardle for the continuation of this line.)

She was educated at Firbank Church of England Girls Grammar School and Melbourne University. She subsequently became a qualifed Librarian.

235 ii. Elizabeth Balfour-Melville (living status unknown).
