142. Robert Andrew Agnew12 Balfour-Melville (James11, James10 Balfour, John9, Professor James8, James7, James6, James5, Andrew4, James3, David2, Alexander1) was born in Edinburgh 4/11/1849. Robert died 1942 at 92 years of age.
He married Frances Janetta Campbell 1891. Frances died 1947.
He emigrated, c1876. Point of origin: pt of origin unknown. After being educated at Edinburgh Academy he moved to London in 1866 where he was employed by Hough Balfour. In 1875 he went to Liverpool to learn the cotton trade and the following year was sent to Galveston, Texas, but due to a recession the business was wound up. From there he went to Australia whre he pioneered growing sugar cane in northern New South Wales. When the Colonial Sugar Company failed to take the cane that he had produced as originally arranged, he moved to Geelong and until the early 1890's was employed by an Estate Agent. Moving to Melbourne in 1893 he practiced as a Public Accountant.
He was a keen sportsman and played at Wimbledon.

Francis Ogilvy13 Balfour-Melville was born 1892. Francis died 1923 at 31
years of age. He was educated at Brighton Grammar School and St. Peter's College, Cambridge. He enlisted in the 1st Australian Imperial
Forces and saw service in the Army Medical Corps on a troopship and later in France. On discharge from the army he entered the Theological
Hall, Ormond College and was killed in a driving accident at the age of 30. Died without issue.

Mary Balfour-Melville was born 1895. Mary died 1895 at less than one year of age. Twin of James Leslie, and died
at four months.
