97. James11 Balfour-Melville (James10 Balfour, John9, Professor James8, James7, James6, James5, Andrew4, James3, David2, Alexander1) was born in Edinburgh 17/02/1815. James died 1898 at 83 years of age.
He married Eliza Ogilvy Maitland-Heriot 1844. Eliza was the daughter of James Maitland-Heriot. Eliza died 1897.
He was christened in Edinburgh, 28/02/1815. He was listed as a resident in the census report Pilrig House, Edinburgh, 1841. Assumed the name of Melville on the death of his brother John in 1893. Educated At Edinburgh Academy and Edkinburgh University, he joined his father's frim where he became a solictor and later in 1842 a Writer to the Signet. He was appointed Clerk to the Commissioners of Income Tax for Midlothian; this position was held in the family until his grandson, John Inglis Balfour-Melville, resigned in 1962. He was also a Justice of the Peace for the County of Fife.

emigrated, 1880. Point of origin: pt of origin unknown. Educated in England before going to Australia where for a time he worked with his
brother, Robert, and later with a bank in Melbourne. He then moved to Goulbourn Valley in Victoria and from there he went to Dubbo in New
South Wales. Died without issue.

Academy he later became a Chartered Accountant and Stockbroker. He died as the result of an accident in the New Club, Edinburgh. Died
