John Mackintosh Balfour-Melville of Pilrig and Strathkinnes

95. John Mackintosh¹¹ Balfour-Melville (James¹⁰ Balfour, John⁹, Professor James⁸, James⁷, James⁶, James⁵, Andrew⁴, James³, David², Alexander¹) was born in Edinburgh 23/09/1811. John died 22/09/1893 at 81 years of age.

He married Annie Rainy 10 Moore Place, Glasgow, 1841. Annie was born in Glasgow, Scotland 17/10/1820. Annie was the daughter of Harry Rainy and Barbara Gordon. Annie died December 1891 at 71 years of age. She was listed as a resident in the census report in West George Street, Glasgow, 1841.

He was christened in Edinburgh, 30/09/1811. He was listed as a resident in the census report Pilrig House, Edinburgh, 1841. Had two other issue. Assumed the name Melville on the death of George Whytt Melville, his second cousin, and inherited the property at Straithkiness in 1883.

John Mackintosh Balfour-Melville and Annie Rainy had the following children:

135 i. Annie Mackintosh¹² Balfour was born 10 Moore Place, Glasgow 6/03/1845. Annie died 1881 at 36 years of age. She married Lieutenant Charles A. Cuningham 1869. (See Lieutenant Charles A. Cuningham for the continuation of this line.)

She was christened in Edinburgh, 12/06/1845.

136 ii. Barbara Gordon Balfour-Melville was born in Edinburgh 14/12/1846.

137 iii. Margaret Jane Balfour-Melville was born in St. Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Scotland 25/01/1849. Margaret died 30/07/1941 Pilrig House, Edinburgh, at 92 years of age. Her funeral was held Dean Cemetery, 09/08/1941.
