James Balfour of Pilrig


36. James7 Balfour 1st Laird of Pilrig (James6, James5, Andrew4, James3, David2, Alexander1) was born 1681. James died 3/02/1737 at 55 years of age. His body was interred 4/02/1737.

He married Louisa Hamilton c1704. Louisa was born 1686. Louisa was the daughter of Sir Robert Hamilton and Louisa Cochrane. Louisa died 1750 at 64 years of age.

Bought Pilrig House in 1718. According to Vital Records Index, he had six children. Bridget 1648, Helen 1650, Andrew 1658, Jonet (f) 1660, Robert 1665, Chrystine 1666.

child 49 iv. Helen Balfour was born Riddle's Close, Leith 30/8/1709. Helen died August 1793 at 83 years of age. She married Gavin Hamilton 26/03/1732. Gavin was born in Cramond, Edinburgh 11/02/1704. Gavin was the son of Reverend William Hamilton and Mary Robertson. Gavin died 1/01/1767 in Millbank House, Leith, at 62 years of age. His body was interred 7/01/1767 in Colinton Kirk, Colinton. child 58 xiii. Margaret Balfour was born Pilrig House, Edinburgh 3/07/1720.

child 59 xiv. Mary Balfour was born Pilrig House, Edinburgh 12/09/1721. Mary died 1722 Pilrig House, Edinburgh, at less than one year of age.

child 60 xv. William Balfour was born Pilrig House, Edinburgh 26/07/1723. William died 1731 Pilrig House, Edinburgh, at 7 years of age.

child 62 xvii. Unnamed Balfour was born Pilrig House, Edinburgh 1726. Unnamed died 1726 Pilrig House, Edinburgh, at less than one year of age.
