46. Professor James8 Balfour (James7, James6, James5, Andrew4, James3, David2, Alexander1) was born Riddle's Close, Leith 20/8/1705. James died 06/03/1795 Pilrig House, Edinburgh, at 89 years of age. His body was interred 1795 in Parish Church, South Leith, Scotland.

He married Cecilia Elphinstone August 1737. Cecilia was born 1704. Cecilia was the daughter of Sir John Elphinstone and Mary Elliot. Cecilia died 1780 at 76 years of age. She was christened in Edinburgh, 30/06/1704.

He was christened in South Leith, Scotland, 31/8/1705. Author of Delineation of the Nature and Obligation of Morality, Philosophical Essays(1768) and Philosophical Dissertations(1782). Buried in the Parish Church of South Leith.

Professor James Balfour and Cecilia Elphinstone had the following children:

child 67 iv. Mary Cecilia Balfour was born Pilrig House, Edinburgh 30/07/1742. She married William Gibson 1761. William died 1807. (See William Gibson for the continuation of this line.)

child 68 v. Lewis Balfour was born Pilrig House, Edinburgh 3/03/1746. Lewis died 1806 Sterling, at 60 years of age. Drowned in the Water of Allan, Sterling.
